Excerpt: The Italian Concerto , BWV 971, original title: Concerto nach Italienischem Gusto (Concerto after the Italian taste ), published in 1735 as the first half of Clavier-Übung II, along with the Overture in the French style , is a three-movement concerto for two-manual harpsichord solo composed by Johann Sebastian Bach . The Italian Concerto has become popular among Bach’s keyboard works, and has been widely recorded both on the harpsichord and the piano.Movements:The Italian Concerto’ s two lively F major outer movements, in ritornello style, frame a florid arioso -style movement in D minor , the relative minor .Though a concerto relies upon the contrasting roles of different groups of instruments in an ensemble, Bach imitates this effect by creating contrasts using the forte and piano manuals of a two-manual harpsichord throughout the piece. In fact, along with the Overture in the French style and some of the Goldberg Variations , this is one of the few works by Bach which specifically require a 2-manual harpsichord.Bach also transcribed Italian concertos by Vivaldi and others for solo harpsichord (BWV 972-987), and for solo organ or pedal harpsichord (BWV 592-596).Media Websites (URLs online) A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at … |

Compositions By Joseph Haydn $19.99 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: The Creation, Gott Erhalte Franz Den Kaiser, the Seasons, the Seven Last Words of Christ, Cello Concerto No. 1, List of Piano Trios by Joseph Haydn, List of Concertos by Joseph Haydn, List of Solo Piano Compositions by Joseph Haydn, Hoboken-Verzeichnis, Stabat Mater, Trumpet Concerto, Piano Sonata No. 52 in E-Flat Major, Cello Concerto No. 2, Violin Concerto No. 1, Variations in F Minor, Violin Concerto No. 3, Keyboard Concerto No. 11, Horn Concerto No. 1, Piano Trio No. 39, Sinfonia Concertante, Violin Concerto No. 4. Excerpt: The Cello Concerto No.1 in C Major , Hob. VIIb/1, by Joseph Haydn was composed around 17611765 for longtime friend Joseph Franz Weigl , then the principal cellist of Prince Nicolaus ‘s Esterházy Orchestra. Background The work was presumed lost until 1961, when musicologist Oldich Pulkert discovered a copy of the score at the Prague National Museum . Though some doubts have been raised about the authenticity of the work, most experts believe that Haydn did compose this concerto. This early work (it is contemporaneous with symphonies 6 , 7 and 8 ) already shows Haydn as a master of instrumental writing. The solo cello part is thoroughly idiomatic. The concerto reflects the ritournello form of the baroque concerto as well as the emerging structure of the sonata-allegro form. As in the baroque concerto grosso, the accompanying ensemble is small: strings, two oboes, and two horns. It is possible that Weigl was the only cellist in the Esterházy Orchestra when Haydn composed the concerto, since there is only one cello line in the score, marked alternately “solo” and “tutti.” There is also, however, a basso continuo line, that might have been played by another cellist, or by Haydn himself on the harpsichord, or by a string bass |

The song was the only U.S. number one hit for the group, and remains one of their best known songs. The members of Fleetwood Mac were experiencing emotional upheavals while recording Rumours. Drummer Mick Fleetwood was going through a divorce. Bass player John McVie was separating from his wife, keyboard player Christine McVie. Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and Nicks were ending their eight-year relationship. “We had to go through this elaborate exercise of denial,” explains Buckingham to Blender Magazine, “keeping our personal feelings in one corner of the room while trying to be professional in the other.” Nicks wrote the song at the Record Plant studio in Sausalito, California, in early 1976. “One day when I wasn’t required in the main studio,” remembers singer Stevie Nicks to Blender, “I took a Fender Rhodes piano and went into another studio that was said to belong to Sly, of Sly |
